Current Thoughts: GLP-1 Drugs the Right Way
GLP-1 drugs are having a moment — and for good reason. They’re highly effective for weight loss and can be life-changing for those with obesity or metabolic dysfunction. But like any tool, they’re only useful if they’re used wisely — and in the right context.
Weight loss alone isn’t the goal. A leaner body that’s metabolically weaker, with less muscle, less strength, and a lower quality of life is not progress — it’s just smaller. Too many people are using these drugs without the foundational habits of resistance training and adequate protein intake. The result? Loss of muscle mass, slower metabolism, and greater fragility in the long run.
The biggest trap? Middle-aged women trying to drop the last 10-20 pounds — not because they’re over-fat, but because they’re under-muscled. GLP-1s help them lose weight, but not the right kind. They end up with less strength, less muscle, and far less healthy and fit.
If you’re using GLP-1s to improve health, strength, and longevity — great. But if you’re using them as a vanity tool for a few pounds, you’re playing the wrong game.
