11/3/25: Halloween Candy struggle, fit parents = fit kids, lifting when pregnant

Halloween was this past Friday. All three of my kids came home with bags full of candy — the kind of haul that could fill a piñata… twice.

If it were once a year, I wouldn’t think twice about it. But it’s not once a year.

Candy shows up as a reward at school. As a treat at church. As a “good job” at sports practice. As a gesture of love from family. It’s everywhere — and it’s constant.

We talk about the obesity epidemic like it’s a mystery. It’s not.
Over 70% of U.S. adults are now overweight or obese. One in five children meets the same criteria.
The CDC projects that by 2030, nearly half of all Americans will be classified as obese.
This isn’t a moral failure — it’s a structural one. Processed foods make up nearly 60% of the average American diet, and they’re engineered to override our appetite, our judgment, and our health.

I don’t want that for my kids.

So yes — sometimes I’m the “bad guy.” The one who says no to the lollipop after practice. The one who trades candy for cash. The one who offers real food when the world hands out sugar.

Not because I’m mean. But because I love them enough to protect what matters — their long-term health.

Anyone else feel this struggle?

I imagine most parents don’t want their kids to suffer from lack of exercise when they get older. Guess what your best method for preventing that is? ->

Is it dangerous to lift heavy when pregnant? Not really. Compared to what women in history had to endure over history, lifting weights is kinda a walk in the park. Click on the pic for more info.
