Current Thoughts: 4th of July THoughts

We recently celebrated the 4th of July, Independence Day, on which we adopted the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain. In this document, the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are deemed inalienable to all of man kind. Life requires consistent nourishment and care. Liberty requires appropriate discipline and self restraint. The pursuit of happiness requires the intelligence to distinguish it from pleasure and the ability to sacrifice that short term feeling for the longer term satisfaction.

Do you regularly nourish and care for the life you’ve been given and the lives you’ve been entrusted with?

Do you exhibit discipline and self restraint?

Do you pursue happiness and satisfaction or are you regularly exchanging it for pleasure?

We all struggle to live this out perfectly but we can all strive to improve and live up to the ideal our fore fathers believed was necessary to fight for.

I recently heard the term “Foot Coffins” in reference to regular shoes and I loved it. A coffin is a restrictive vessel in which there is no life and that is pretty good descriptive of what most shoes are for your feet. Your feet, much like your hands, are designed to move freely with flexibility, strength, and stability. Don’t kill your connection to the ground for the sake of fashion.
