Current Thoughts
The hot topic of the health and fitness space currently: peptides. They’re being marketed as the new revolutionary drug that big pharma doesn’t want you getting access to because they’ll heal any injury in half the time, cure all diseases, and help you build muscle and lose fat without even trying (I may be exaggerating, but not by much).
Do peptides have some validity? Maybe. Sure some have some clinical and anecdotal evidence but the reality is we just don’t know. The vast majority of them lack any science to back up their claims. Know what doesn’t lack evidence? The basic stuff we’ve been preaching for years: building strength, improving your diet to lose body fat, getting in better cardiovascular.
Going from not deadlifting at all to being able to deadlift your bodyweight is at least a thousand fold bigger improvement in your overall longevity and quality of life that any peptide you could take. Stack that with going from the bottom 25% to the top 25% for V02max and dropping from an obese body fat percentage to a healthy body fat percentage and you’re not even in the same galaxy for health improvements compared to taking a peptide.
Those are harder to do though. They take time, they take effort, and they take discipline. That’s why the the pay off is so much larger. So should you take peptides? I wouldn’t pick up pennies until you’ve gathered all the $100 bills first.
