Current Thoughts
| It’s not hard, it just is. Saying something is hard is a statement of subjectivity and, for accuracy, must be combined with a point of reference. Waking up early to train is hard. Compared to what? Compared to sleeping in your warm bed. What about when compared to managing depression that regular exercise would help mitigate? Zone 4 and 5 cardio are hard compared to watching TV but how about when compared to recovering from a heart attack? Eating healthy is hard compared to indulging in every opportunity for sweets but how does it compared to trying to learn discipline for the first time at 60+ years old? If you’re struggling with the mental barrier of doing something hard, try reframing that belief around the context of “compared to what?” Yes, hard things are hard when compared to easy things that prioritize short term comfort. So instead compare the choice of doing something hard today to the future where that choice is taken from you. |
