Current Thoughts: 65+ Least Likely To Exercise
The minimum weekly exercise recommendation is pretty simple:
150 minutes of moderate-intensity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity a week.
It’s not much — a little over 20 minutes a day. And yet, only about 1 in 5 Americans hit it.
What’s even more revealing is the age breakdown. Among 18- to 44-year-olds, around 30% meet the guideline. In the 65+ crowd? Just 14%.
That’s a problem. The older you are, the more good movement matters — not just for fitness, but for independence, resilience, and disease prevention. But the people with the most to gain are the least likely to do it.
The real lesson: start young. Build the habit before you build up a lifetime of reasons not to.
Things I like

| Recent research across China, Lithuania, and the UK found that body fat percentage is a stronger predictor of male physical attractiveness than BMI or shoulder-to-waist ratio. What stood out? Most attractive body fat: 13–14% Ideal BMI range: 23.2–24.8 Sweet spot shoulder-to-waist ratio: 1.57 It tracks with evolutionary logic — these are also tight markers for metabolic health.
