“Hospital Code Blue”
As many of you know, I spent a week in the hospital due to a very serious leg infection I had as the aftermath of a spider bite and a trip to Africa. When I arrived at the hospital, I had a 104 fever and a leg that looked completely disgusting that I couldn’t walk on. I was admitted and over the course of the first few days I kept hearing “Code Blue” being said over intercom. After the fever broke and I came to my senses, I asked the nurse what Code Blue meant.
“CPR needed. Someone has coded and is trying to die” was her response.
“Oh crap! That’s the floor of the hospital I’m on?” was what came to mind when I heard her response. I’ve always spoken about health and fitness being a savings account that you’ll have to draw upon when the moment comes, whether that be from age, sickness, or injury. Well, I had to draw on my savings account that week.
I’m very thankful that I had been making daily deposits into that account for the last 25 years. If I had diabetes, I would’ve lost my leg. If I had heart disease, I would’ve died. If I was obese, I would’ve been completely immobile. In that moment, all I had to get me through were the deposits I’d made up until that point and the expertise of the medical team.
When the moment comes, and you need to draw on your account, I hope it’s not empty, because at that point, it’s too late to make any deposits.
Things I Like: Homemade Kombucha

Several years back I started taking my gut health seriously and part of that process was regular drinking kombucha. Like many DIYers, I decided to try out the brewing process myself. Turns out it is super easy and I can make delicious kombucha myself at a fraction of the price. Here’s the starter kit I used. |
